FAQ

Who can participate in the EMRG?

Anyone, of course! This discussion group is open to faculty and graduate students who work on or have an interest in Renaissance and early modern England. We imagine that students in English, History and Theatre departments in the midwest region will have the greatest interest.

What happens during meetings?

Meetings are very casual, consisting primarily of conversations with snacks. At the start of the semester the organizers lead discussion by posing questions about where the playtext and criticism for that week intersect, allowing participants to shape the discussion according to their interests from there.

Where are meetings usually held?

Meetings are typically held in a classroom of te English Building, but change semester-to-semester. Contact the organizers for more information.

How often does the EMRG meet?

The Group meets usually once a month while the University is in session. See the schedule for more information.

How do I get ahold of reading materials to prepare for discussion?

Copies of the articles and book chapters are available online using the UIUC e-reserve system for download. Contact us with your name, net ID, and UIN, and we will add you to the list. Multiple copies of the plays are available through the University library as hard copies, but digital transcriptions of all are available at Early English Books Online: click here and then select the “go” button to search.

Who do I contact if I have further questions?

Feel free to contact the organizers for more information about the group, the theme for that year, and how to get involved. See the about page for email address, or just fill out the contact form right now.
