A Kenwood Success Story

I was walking down the hall toward the teachers’ lounge one morning, probably to make some copies or something.  Miss KJ, the art teacher, greeted me in the hall and asked, “Did you hear about Hypatia (not her real name)?”  I said that no, I hadn’t.  “Oh, you should ask Jessica about Hypatia,” she said excitedly.

As I headed back toward the library, I saw Jessica in her office.  “Morning, Jessica,” I said.

“Hey, Travis,” she replied.

“KJ told me to ask you about Hypatia?”

“Oh!  Yes!”  She brightened visibly at the mention of the third-grader’s name.  “So Hypatia’s big brother is eighteen, and he was visiting Bradley this weekend.  He’s majoring in computer science, and so for part of the visit he was in this group talking to one of their CS professors.  So the professor asks the crowd what they know about computer science, and everybody’s stone silent.

“Then Hypatia raises her hand.  The professor calls on her, and she just starts rattling off all the stuff she’s learned at Tech Time.  I mean, all very rudimentary, but hardware stuff and coding and just blowing this guy away!  A room full of high school seniors, and a third grade girl showed ‘em all up.  How’s that, huh?”

I was floored.  It’s great when the magic works.
