International Women’s Day is an annual celebration that remembers the historic achievements of women and calls attention to issues facing women’s rights today. This year’s holiday was special in that it sparked the movement “A Day Without a Woman“. Women from all over the United States refused to spend money shopping or attend work or school to show their economic impact as well as how important they are in the professional world. It also illustrated the irreplaceable contributions that women make in society daily.
The movement is a response to the Trump presidency, which is fitting since every day seems to be “A Day Without a Woman” in the White House. Before his presidency, Donald Trump has been recorded saying multiple derogatory statements towards women and has clearly shown how he views the roles of women in society. We cannot allow the president of the United States to normalize the objectification of women. The “Day Without a Woman” movement is extremely important to show the country that Trump’s views are wrong and disrespectful towards women.
Women in America today still face injustices. We need to stand together to allow our voices to be heard, especially during these next four years. “A Day Without a Woman” is just one way to show the powerful impact that women have on this country.
