Trump’s Ban in Action

On February 9, I watched a news report delivered by CBS News. According to one story, President Donald Trump has ordered that illegal immigrants who have committed a crime be deported. One such immigrant is Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos. As a police van carried her to her fate, a crowd of protesters gathered to stop the deportation in its tracks. This attempt to keep Rayos in the U.S. failed, and she was returned to Mexico.

CBS News is a highly respected news agency, and it values groundbreaking news. The stories that it covered are fact-checked and reliable. It seems to value accuracy, as one anchor describes and corrects a claim made by the new attorney general, Jeff Sessions, in regards to recent crime rates.

The story on Rayos clearly shows timeliness, as the debate over Trump’s immigration reform and travel ban is at its peak. Prominence is also shown, not towards Rayos, but towards President Trump, since he is the person responsible for this order. This story evokes emotion from its audience by including footage of Rayos’s daughter, adding the element of human interest. Finally, conflict is clearly shown by the protesters, one of which even tied himself to the police van to keep it from deporting Rayos. This provided the audience with tension and suspense.
