PhD Student Rita Peng Wins IEEE NextGen Scholar Award!

Rita Peng will be presenting her research paper “Alteration of Cortical Somatosensory Feedback in Post-Stroke Movement Control” at the 46th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE EMBC 2024), Orlando, Florida, July 15-19, 2024. Rita is the first author of this work, and she won IEEE NextGen Scholar Award because of this work!

This study examines sensory feedback alterations in hemiparetic stroke using somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) and finds a time-dependent shift in sensory processing from the lesioned to the contralesional hemisphere, particularly during paretic arm movement and tactile stimulation. Enhanced contralesional activity for SEP components P50 and N100 suggests adaptive changes in sensory feedback post-stroke.
