iSchool Student Groups

Becoming a part of the professional community is an important aspect of professional education. We encourage students to get involved in the student chapters of professional associations and student groups at the iSchool. It’s a great way to meet peers, gain experience for resume building, and network. Many of the student groups host meetings, guest speakers, and other events.

Be sure to participate in the welcome activities organized by the student groups during your iSchool Orientation. It’s a great way to learn about the different groups and see which one(s) you may be interested in joining.

ACM-W: The Association for Computing Machinery for Women, iSchool Student Chapter (UIUC ACM-W)

ALA: American Library Association, iSchool Student Chapter

ASIS&T: Association for Information Science and Technology, iSchool Student Chapter

Chinese Student and Scholar Group: Chinese Student and Scholar Group (CSSG) works to establish bonds between iSchool Chinese students and alumni with the entire iSchool community.

iSchool Doctoral Students Association (iDSA): The iSchool Doctoral Students Association (iDSA) advances the academic and social interests of doctoral students in the School of Information Sciences at Illinois.

iSchool Stitch n’ Bitch: The iSchool Stitch n’ Bitch is a group that focuses on relaxation for iSchool students.

iSchool Students of Color: The mission of the Students of Color (iSoC) group is to create, support, and promote a community of library students of color at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and beyond.

PLG:  Progressive Librarians Guild, iSchool Student Chapter

QLA: The Queer Library Alliance (QLA) is a group for iSchool students to explore ways that librarians and archivists can provide better service for their LGBTQ patrons.

SAA: Society of American Archivists, iSchool Student Chapter

SLA:  Special Libraries Association, iSchool Student Chapter
