Required Textbooks

Many courses at the iSchool do not require students to purchase textbooks, but instead assign articles obtainable from the University Library. To view a list of textbooks in courses that require them, visit the textbooks webpage. *This page will not be updated until the week before classes begin.

Accessing Courses

Approximately one week before courses begin, you will be given access to your courses through the iSchool’s learning management system, Canvas. You can access Canvas at https://canvas.illinois.edu/. If you make any changes to your course schedule during the term, allow 48 hours for Canvas to update.

iSchool courses typically meet for two to three hours each week. You are expected to attend all class sessions, as they are live, and actively participate. Courses, both on-campus and online, will have synchronous and asynchronous components. Carefully review the syllabus for each class to determine the instructor’s expectations.

Creating a Library Account

Set up your University Library account and start exploring the Library resources! This can be done after you receive your i-Card when you arrive on-campus. If you are unable to obtain an i-Card or are an online student (not provided an i-Card), visit this Library FAQ page for login details.

You do NOT need a library account to access subscription e-resources from Library webpages. This can be done using your NetID and password.

On-Campus Housing

Graduate Student Housing is available through the University at residence halls and apartments.

Off-Campus Housing

Off-Campus Community Living is a great place to start your apartment search for housing off-campus.

Public Transit

Champaign-Urbana has a great public transportation system. On-campus students can ride free with an i-Card!
