What are the goals of the Vision 2030 Global Strategy initiatives and funding opportunities?

These opportunities are intended provide students, faculty, and staff with the opportunity to engage directly with the Vision 2030 Global Strategy priorities. The grant programs focus on the internationalization of the student experience and enhancing global competencies faculty and staff to better serve the university community. The strategic initiatives foster greater campus programming and engagement on a variety of international issues.

How much is the university investing in these opportunities?

The Office of the Provost has committed an initial $500,000 for the 2023-2024 academic year. Illinois International is tasked with administratively supporting the programs and also contributes a modest amount of additional funding to support implementation.

Who can apply?

The Vision 2030 Global Strategy funding opportunities are open to all administrative and academic units at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, though some opportunities are targeted to faculty and instructors. Refer to the Eligibility section of the specific opportunity for guidance.

How do I apply?

All opportunities share an application. It is recommended that individuals review the grant or program requirements fully before submitting an application.

What should be included in the application?

Each grant or program has different requirements. Refer to the Application Documents section of the specific opportunity for guidance.

Both grants mention “countries in the Global South.” Do you have a list of Global South countries?

Applicants are encouraged to use the United Nations’ Finance Center for South-South Cooperation’s list of Global South countries as a reference.

Can funds be layered with additional departmental funding?

Yes! Additional funding sources are required for some grants and highly encouraged for others.

After I am awarded the grant or selected for the program, how will I receive the funds?

The majority of the Vision 2030 Global Strategy funding will be provided on a reimbursement basis. Funding will be transferred internally from Illinois International to the awarded unit. It will be the responsibility of the awarded unit to ensure outside partners receive their funding. Refer to the Award Conditions section of the specific opportunity for guidance.

Can I make changes to my project or budget once the grant is awarded?

Yes, however, significant delays in use of the funds should be communicated to Illinois International as soon as possible.

What are the post-award requirements?

Each opportunity will include some combination of the following post-award requirements. Refer to the Post-Award Requirements section of the specific opportunity for guidance.

  • Outcomes Report. A brief summary of the activities completed and outcomes achieved.
  • Public Presentation or Workshop. Share information about the funded activity to a university-wide audience during an Illinois International sponsored event or workshop.
  • Share Experience. Share lessons learned and/or outcomes achieved to help inform future awardees and promote the university’s Vision 2030 Global Strategy.
How do I acknowledge the funding in my project?

Any publications, events, and/or promotional materials that are produced as a result of the Vision 2030 Global Strategy opportunities should include the following statement as appropriate: “Funding for this program/project is provided through a Vision 2030 Global Strategy initiative.”

Yes! Campus departments and units who are offering programming, funding, and/or pursuing an initiative related to the Vision 2030 Global Strategy (or closely tied to global learning generally) are invited to share short summaries and links to more information for use on this website. Submit a program or initiative.
