Tourism

Dark tourism, as a niche tourism experience, focuses the tourist on histories around death.  Often the sites are places where mass deaths occurred, such as Auschwitz and Cambodia’s Killing Fields, and which have deeply affected the collective memory and identity of the country or the world. Dark tourist sites are intriguing for their extraordinary histories, even when they are not representative of such large scale atrocities. These sites can range from events of global importance to very specific local or popular traumas, making this topic as polemical as it is popular.
