Reflecting on a Proposal

To begin my revision, I had to go over Mrs. Hays’ corrections. Her first was that my title didn’t say enough, so I replaced it with the actual title from the final version of my research paper as I liked it better as well she thought it was intriguing. She asked if my research said anything about the positive correlation between poverty and crime rate in the areas I mentioned I will be studying. I now expounded on my reason for looking into these areas and that it will not include a real involved argument on this subject as it is not my focus. I’ve also expanded on what I meant by negative impact in my thesis. I’d also like to add that in both my P/A Bibliography and my Research Paper, I did include hanging indents yet for some reason in the version on Compass2g those indents do not appear. For one of my sources, I have now acknowledged it’s age likely affects its relevance, whereas before I had left it as ‘not too old’. For the most part, the rest of Mrs. Hays’ corrections were things like punctuation or confusing grammar.

The most important part of my reflection is the sources I decided to add, as I had realized a new facet of my topic. All over campus and any populated areas, there are often signs that bar the carrying of firearms. I realized that these signs are on every bus I see, so this got me interested if they have been banned on public transportation in general. And if they had, how does this affect the poor who likely use public transportation a lot more than other demographics? So I did more research in this and found that yes firearms are banned as a general rule in Illinois’ public transportation, so I included the government page to cite later on when I discuss this in my revision of the research paper. I also wanted to see what percent of Illinois’ poor use public transportation, as well as overall nationally if they use it frequently, so I found a site that could provide these statistics. This site is Governing which provided statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau. In the end, I’m very happy with this revision, mostly because I’m very eager to delve into the new found issue and be able to talk and expound more about my topic.
