PS 377: Politics and Principles of Dissent

PS 377: POLITICS AND PRINCIPLES OF DISSENT.  The scheduled time for PS 377: Politics and Principles of Dissent (Topics in Contemporary Political Theory) CRN 38246 has been changed to MW 9:30-10:50.  This time change will allow more students to take this course.  This advanced hours course is taught by Samantha Frost.  The description reads: “In a context in which digital technologies blur the distinction between public and private lives, it is critically important to understand the philosophical, political, and legal principles with reference to which political speech, protest, and dissent are protected in democratic societies. In this course, we will examine the historical development of these principles and the ways they have been invoked, contested, and revoked in various political and civil rights movements as well in legal battles over changing social norms. We will draw on the historical and philosophical background to analyze the particular challenges posed by digital technologies today.”
