Course Description: This course will focus on recent developments in the area of ethics, beginning with an exploration of some advances in the debate between consequentialists and deontologists. The course will cover new material on the topic of aid (when exactly are we required to help others who are in need?) and the topic of distributive justice (what constitutes a fair distribution of goods?). The final segment of the course will focus on recent developments in virtue theory, including some criticisms of virtue ethics, as well as some important advances stemming from positive psychology.
