Please find attached a flyer for a new course on the history of Black Health Care offered by the Department of African American Studies in the spring semester.
AFRO 298:
Black Health in America: Diaspora, Disease, and Disparities
CRN: 58957
This course will focus on African American experiences with sickness and health from the era of slavery to the emergence of race-based pharmaceuticals in the twentieth century. We examine the historical factors that have contributed to disparities in health and access to care among African Americans, as well as the ways in which science and medicine have been complicit in marginalizing African American bodies. Students will critically assess the ways in which legacies of neglect, medical exploitation, and limited access continue to frame minority health issues and shape public health policy.
