About

physoc-001The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign chapter of the Society of Physics Students will be hosting the Fall 2014 SPS Zone 8 Meeting. The goal of the SPS Zone meeting is to provide students in the region with the opportunity to:

  • meet and network with physics students from other colleges and universities
  • to present their research to peers and grow as scientific communicators
  • to learn more about career  and graduate school opportunities in physics and related fields, and
  • engage professionally with researchers and University faculty

Activities at the meeting include:

  • invited talks by distinguished Illinois faculty including Nobel Laureate Tony Leggett
  • a career panel featuring professionals from a diverse range of careers
  • a graduate school panel featuring Illinois graduate students and admissions faculty
  • tours of faculty’s research labs
  • a poster session
  • student presentations
  • break-out discussion sessions
  • social events including a liquid nitrogen ice cream social.

While the meeting is an SPS event, it is open to all physics students in our zone, and students from smaller departments are especially encouraged to attend.
