About Us

Illini Equestrians is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) that aims to bring together students from UIUC for equine-related educational, social, and competitive opportunities! Any undergraduate or graduate students are welcome, regardless of prior skill or knowledge level.  Check out the menu for more information on taking riding lessons or joining our show teams.

Throughout the year we have monthly club meetings that are educational in nature. Past meetings include:

  • Walking skeleton painting contest (horse anatomy)
  • Harness racing demonstrations
  • Veterinary care demonstrations
  • Horse betting lectures
  • Breeding and artificial insemination demonstrations
  • Mounted games demonstrations
  • Meeting the new foals at the U of I horse farm

Additionally, the club hosts two fun social events every month!  Past events include:

  • Trips to Curtis Orchard and Pumpkin Patch
  • Horsey movie nights
  • Potlucks
  • Trips to Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch
  • Arts and crafts
  • Trips to the Kentucky Three Day Event
  • Fall and spring semester bar crawls
  • Trips to the Midwest Horse Fair
  • Barn dances
  • Socials or events with other clubs, club sports, fraternities, or sororities

A key reason that the club is able to afford doing fun socials, put on educational meetings, and send teams to shows is through fundraising. We do various fundraisers during the fall and spring semesters each year. Club members are encouraged to participate in fundraising but it is not mandatory. Team members are required to participate.
