Part-Time Proofreader, NCTE

Looking for Part-Time Proofreaders

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), a professional association of educators in English studies, literacy, and language arts, is seeking part-time proofreaders to work up to 20 hours/week on an as-needed basis. Work assignments typically consist of two- to four-hour shifts at NCTE Headquarters during regular office hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., M-F), but proofreaders can also work from home. Starting wage is $10.00/hour.

The position involves proofreading a variety of materials, including book manuscripts, journal articles, marketing and membership promotional materials, convention programs, and other publications. Applicants should possess strong English language skills (especially in the areas of grammar, spelling, and punctuation) and an eye for detail. A degree in English or communications is preferred but not required.

If interested, please come by NCTE Headquarters and ask the receptionist for a proofreading test (to be taken on site). A brief (approximately two-hour), paid training session will be offered to applicants who do well on the test.

Preference will be given to individuals who can work over the summer and throughout at least the next academic year.
