Bringing Spring to A Close

This year, GSLIS SOC was able to commit and structure the ways in which we interact not only with our school, but the academic community. Weekly meetings produced concerns about student retention and funding and professional opportunities for students of color in LIS. GSLIS SOC members met with the newly formed Diversity Committee to discuss current student concerns including:

  • GSLIS’ role in providing/applying for student funding
  • Unwritten codes of University behavior to be shared with students (cultural capital)
  • LEEP Orientation and New Student Preparedness

GSLIS SOC is currently organizing an online group and forum to continue these conversations over the summer, while looking ahead to the Fall 2014 semester.
