Gender and Women's Studies

I believe this event will be  of interest to many students, not only those considering a major or minor in Gender and Women’s Studies, but also students with interests in public policy and law, social justice work, and non-profits.  I’d be grateful if you could forward this invitation to the students you advise.  The event is open to all students, faculty and staff. Scheduled for April 5, 2013.

LAS Careers Road Trip

hope you are well, that you got through the first week more or less unscathed and are ready for the rest of the spring semester.  In the meantime, we need your help promoting the LAS Careers Road Trip the College is co-sponsoring with The Career Center.  You might recall I sent you a hold-the-date flyer a while ago: the trip itself is set for the last two days of spring break week — March 21 and 22.  It’s open to all LAS and DGS students, although first priority will be given to freshmen and sophomores.

Attached, please find a PDF of the application, the cover sheet for which includes all relevant trip details.  I know you’re still busy, but I’d really appreciate it if you could make the application available to your students.  We’re only taking 22 this pilot year and February 15 is the deadline for completed applications, so please distribute these as soon as you can.  As always, let me know if you have questions or need anything else, as well.

Math Careers Exploration Day on January 31

An excellent opportunity from our friends and neighbors in the Mathematics Department. Details below.

This is a save-the-date note for an exciting event the Department of Mathematics is planning for the morning of January 31.–and also for the Business Career Fair and the Engineering Career Services Career Fair on Jan. 29-30.

The Department of Mathematics is inviting companies who are interested in employing math majors (for both internships and full-time jobs) to come to Math Careers Exploration Day on January 31.  You will have the opportunity to talk to prospective employers.  If you’re a freshman, find out what these companies would like from you in the next few years.  If you’re a sophomore or junior, find out about internship opportunities.  If you’re a senior graduating soon, this is an EXCELLENT opportunity to make a good impression with a prospective employer.

January 29 and 30 are the dates for the spring Business Career Fair and Engineering Career Services Career Fair–it’s going to be a busy week for those of you seeking jobs.

So if there is any chance that you would like an internship or a full-time job after spring semester, please update your resume over winter break.  Then when you get back to campus in January, make sure to have the Career Center critique your resume–and if you can manage it, set up a Career Center mock interview, too.
