David Wilts is an Associate Principal at Arup, leading the Smart Building consulting practice in the Americas, as well as the overall consulting practice in Arup’s Chicago office. He brings over 20 years of design and consulting experience in integrated smart building technology, HD broadcast facilities, audiovisual and multimedia systems, as well as information communications technology.

David is Chair of InfoComm’s Smart Building Task Force, and also sits on ASHRAE’s Smart Building Technical Committee.

As Director of Integrated Building Solutions at AMX, Mike Carter leads a team of sales and engineering specialists focused on developing customized, enterprise solutions for media management, distribution and environment automation. Mike and his team assist Fortune 500, Government and Education clients, as well as Consultants and Integrators globally, to develop practices and deploy solutions which seamlessly integrate the control and monitoring of previously disparate building systems to streamline operations, reduce expenses, improve energy efficiency, and a variety of other benefits. Mike is an active member/contributor for RealComm’s Intelligent Building Conference (IBCon), Continental Automated Buildings Association’s (CABA) Intelligent and Integrated Buildings Council (IIBC), and InfoComm’s newly formed Smart Buildings Task Force.

 

Scott Walker, CTS-D, LEED AP, President, Waveguide Consulting

Scott Walker is president and a founding principal of Waveguide Consulting. Scott has been an independent technology consultant since 1989, and his mark on the AV industry and the AV consulting profession is extensive. Scott has been an InfoComm volunteer since 1999 serving initially as ICAT chair from 1999 through 2001. From there, Scott became an officer on the InfoComm board serving as InfoComm president in 2004. After completing his tenure on the board, Scott continued to his volunteer service as chair of InfoComm’s ANSI Standards steering committee from 2007 to 2009. More recently, Scott’s leadership efforts have centered on the AV industry’s response to the green building movement. In 2009, Scott chaired InfoComm’s Green AV task force, which evolved into InfoComm’s STEP task force. Walker is the original developer of the STEP Rating System.

 

David A. McNell, PE, CTS-D, LEED AP, Senior Consultant, Arup’s Chicago Office

David is a Senior Consultant at Arup’s Chicago office, with more than 10 years of experience as a consultant and engineer of technology systems for a broad range of projects, including healthcare, government, education, commercial and corporate market sectors. As a leader in the technology industry for building information modeling (BIM) and project documentation he chaired InfoComm’s BIM taskforce for its first two years culminating in the creation of industry best practices for content development and project documentation. He also serves on BISCI’s BIM standards working group tasked with developing BIM standards for the information technology industry.

 

Bruce Toman, Technical Principal, Perkins + Will’s Chicago Office

Bruce Toman serves as Technical Principal of Perkins+Will’s Chicago office and is the co-chair of the firm’s Excellence in Execution initiative for technical standards. In this role, Bruce leads the firm’s Quality Program and directs the Chicago office’s technical quality assurance and quality control of all disciplines from initial planning through construction administration. His 35 years of professional experience encompass such project types as large-scale/mixed-use, corporate office, public and governmental, residential and hospitality, retail and entertainment, transportation, healthcare and higher education.

Having worked with a number of celebrated architects including Frank Gehry and Rem Koolhaas, Bruce has gained invaluable expertise with technical leadership on complex projects. Bruce is a member of InfoComm International’s Intelligent Building Task Force, which oversees the development of standards for emerging smart building technology.

 

Allen Weidman, Executive Director, The STEP Foundation

Allen Weidman brings more than 30 years of association experience to STEP, having worked with the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Consumer Products Safety Commission and a number of other federal and state regulatory agencies. He has developed, integrated and managed industry coalitions on federal and international environmental issues. Weidman also concurrently serves as Sustainability Officer for InfoComm International, the trade association representing the commercial audiovisual industry.

Prior to joining STEP, Weidman served as a Senior Account Executive for Kellen Company, an association management firm. He has also served as Executive Director for six different industry sector groups during his tenure at the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), where he was responsible for developing industry positions relative to sustainability, the environmental footprint of various plastics, and was instrumental in the strategic analysis of how the emerging “green” standards would impact associations. In addition, he played an integral role in the development of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Certification Program and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers’ “Energy Standard for Buildings” and “Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality” standards.

Jonathan Orlove is the Director of Project Management at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Mr. Orlove has more than twenty years of experience in the field of architecture. His portfolio encompasses a diverse range of project types, located domestically and overseas, including large-scale mixed-use, high-rise and low-rise residential, commercial and corporate headquarters, healthcare, and hospitality. With extensive experience as a project manager, Mr. Orlove has comprehensive knowledge of the design process, from the inception of a project through its design, construction and closeout. Prior to joining AS+GG in 2007, Jonathan was an Associate Partner and Project Manager in the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. He also worked for Ram Carmi Architects in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Mr.Buscarino has excellent analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, as well as a methodical, strategic and hands-on approach to problem solving, as evident in TCG’s many out-of-the-box project solutions.

 

Mike Marquissee, Director for Budget, Planning and Resources, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Mike Marquissee is the Director for Budget, Planning and Resources within the Energy Services unit of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He has over 30 years of experience in Management Accounting, having spent 25 years in private industry and 12 years at the University managing accounting and business support functions. Prior to coming to work for the University in 2000, Mike was successful in providing key analytical data and budget decision support for a major North American paper manufacturer. Since joining the University, he has led the Facilities and Services business office to providing greater customer value and critical decision making data. He has a Master’s Degree in Accounting and is a Certified Management Accountant.

 

John Cook, CTS, Vice President of Client Services, The Sextant Group

John A. Cook CTS leads strategic technology planning, audiovisual systems design and client services for The Sextant Group, the internationally-recognized technology consulting firm specializing in integrating technology with both pedagogy and the learning space. His work spans strategic technology planning to systems design for over 600 projects covering more than 200 campuses across North America, including the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Maryland, Harvard University, SUNY, Syracuse University, the Pennsylvania State University, Texas Tech University, the University of Nevada, the University of Virginia, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and numerous community colleges.

A frequent author and speaker on technology integration, John has been published in The Journal of Educational Psychology, ACUI’s The Bulletin, SCUP’s New Directions in Planning, and has presented educational conferences from Anaheim to Montreal. Topics include “Emerging Technologies in Higher Education,” “Generation NeXt in the Learning Environment,” “Forecasting Trends in Student Life & Technologies,” and “Staying Ahead of the Curve: Planning Student Centers with an Eye toward the Future.”

He holds a BS and MS from Purdue University.
