College of Fine and Applied Arts

Dance

Degrees:

Dance offers various programs that match your dreams, goals and ambitions to build a sustainable career in the arts: Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of  Arts + BS in Kinesiology, Musical Theater Minor, Yoga Certification. Though basic requirements are the same for all degrees, specific application details differ. Current Illinois students should write to the Undergraduate Program Director, John Toenjes, at jtoenjes@illinois.edu for details about the audition procedure and the appropriate application form.

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.00
  • Students should apply as early in their college career as possible so they can begin the Dance curriculum. In general, students should anticipate studying for three to four years after transferring into Dance to earn their degree. However, this timeline is variable and depends upon the amount of training the individual student has already had. Students will be provided with accurate information after their audition.
  • Audition: Students must successfully complete an audition. Dates and information are available at https://dance.illinois.edu/programs-applying/undergraduate-programs/application-audition/

Application Periods:

In general, students may only enter Dance in the fall semester, though they may take some classes leading to the degree in the spring semester. The Dance Department has auditions for prospective students in the fall and early in the new year (https://dance.illinois.edu/programs-applying/undergraduate-programs/application-audition/). Auditions results must be available before the College will review student’s academic eligibility for admission.
