General Information:

  • Policies and Procedures for Intercollegiate Transfer.
  • Off-Campus Transfer students admitted to majors outside of Grainger Engineering are not eligible to apply.
  • Students directly admitted to Agricultural & Biological Engineering (ACES) or who were directly admitted as first-year students to Chemical Engineering (LAS) may use the Grainger Engineering major change process and are not required to first apply to Engineering Undeclared.
  • The Grainger College of Engineering typically expects potential ICT students to have earned grades of B or higher in all technical courses attempted.  Achieving this, however, may not guarantee admission into a specific major, due to the competitiveness of the transfer process.
  • All other students should follow the application procedures below.  The transfer process is competitive.

Application Procedures:

  • For students who entered Illinois prior to summer 2022:
    • Students who were directly admitted as first-year students to Physics (LAS) may submit a request to be considered for transfer to Engineering Physics.
    • Students who were directly admitted as first-year students to CS + X majors across campus may use the Grainger Engineering major change process to apply to Computer Science (ENG). The final application cycle from CS + X -> CS  will be for fall 2023.  The application will open in April.
    • The final intercollegiate transfer process (ICT) process for the Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) is complete.  Applications are no longer being accepted and the program will phase out after spring 2023.  Students not admitted to PREP during the final cycle will no longer be eligible for transfer to Grainger Engineering.
  • For students entering Illinois summer/fall 2022 or later:
    • Apply to Engineering Undeclared (EU) during your second and/or third semester.
    • Applications are accepted twice per year with deadlines in May and December.
    • Computer Science (ENG) is closed to all on-campus transfer.
    • Interested students are encouraged to attend an ICT Information Session to learn more.  Sessions will cover: transfer requirements, process, application timeline, and a summary of the Engineering Undeclared Experience.  There will be time reserved at the end for a Q&A and for you to speak to a member of the EU team.  Please sign up to attend an information session.  Both Zoom and in-person options are available.
