Description of Research: Phthalate exposure and neuroinflammation in a Mouse model of endometriosis.

Summary: Phthalates are a large class of chemical compounds used to improve the properties of plastic products as well as some personal care products. In this study we explore the effects of phthalates more specifically Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) on neuroinflammation in Mouse model of endometriosis. We are evaluating the microglial phenotypes in brain and spinal cord. Moreover, we tested the inflammatory response of primary glial cultures when exposed to Mono(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (MEHP) or environmentally relevant mixture of phthalate and phthalate metabolites. Our preliminary results indicate phthalates alter neuroinflammatory response in Mouse model of endometriosis as well as in in vitro primary glial cultures.
