There are a lot of (non-tinfoil) theories floating around about how this came to happen, who was ultimately responsible, and so forth. And there’s a lot of finger-pointing and spinning right now from the most likely culprits, who are trying to employ the logical fallacy of false equivalence to their own benefit. But in the end, we need to make sure no one can hold hostage our government and its ability to function ever again. Because they’re sure going to try.
Too much is at stake for us to repeat this fiasco. And a lot of damage has already been done. It’s not just a matter of economics, or funding for critical social programs or important research in health, science, and technology. It’s also a matter of national security.
Please, call your representatives and tell them that you really, really need them to cooperate with one another and behave like adults. And if they’re not responsive, consider how you might help replace them in 2014 with people who genuinely have the best interests of our country at heart.
