Vitae

Kathleen Ricker is a technical writer and editor based at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Honors in English) at the Pennsylvania State University in 1991 and her Master of Arts degree in English Literature at Loyola University Chicago in 1995.  Having taught college-level writing and literature at various Chicago-area colleges and universities for eight years, she then served as a documentation specialist at the Flash Center for Computational Science at the University of Chicago from 2001-2002.

Kathleen has been a technical writer and editor at NCSA since 2002, where she has assisted on collaborative projects between NCSA staff and researchers from a wide variety of science and technology disciplines, including computer science and engineering, earthquake engineering, astrophysics, environmental science, cybersecurity, education, and technology transfer.  In recent years, however, she has also supported faculty and research staff in other departments, including Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Coordinated Sciences Laboratory, and the Department of Atmospheric Sciences.

Kathleen resides in Champaign, Illinois with her husband Paul, an associate professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois.  Her interests include computer programming, administration, and security, war films and literature, cycling, foreign languages, and classical voice.  In her spare time she sings soprano in the Canterbury Choir at the Chapel of St. John the Divine (Episcopal) and volunteers with CATSNAP, a feline rescue organization that traps and neuters feral cats and fosters those that are adoptable.
