We’ve transplanted vegetables started inside in a classroom under grow lights and planted seeds outside. The wonderful weather proof labels in the photographs were printed by our community partner Minutemen Press. 

3rd graders planted radishes – Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. sativus. This will be enjoyed later this spring during our ‘Salad Day’.
3rd graders planted Sugar snap peas – Pisum sativum var. macrocarpon
Lettuce – Lactuca sativa, seen in the garden bed, was started inside under grow lights by a 3rd grade class and transplanted last week. Arugula- Brassica eruca, was planted in the container. Both crops will be eaten this spring for a ‘Salad Day’.
Spinach – Spinacia oleracea, planted in a container will be eaten during the ‘Salad Day’ later this spring.
Kale – Brassica oleracea, was started inside under grow lights in a 3rd grade classroom. This will be harvested and eaten this summer with our summer gardening team, a group of kids and parents who come once a month to help in the garden.
Kohrabi -Brassica oleracea, was started by seed inside under grow lights by 3rd graders and transplanted out to our garden.
