Travel and first night in Dubrovnik

By IBIP Students Malani and Tyler

Today was filled mostly with travel, but still contained many highlights! Our morning began at our Hotel View in Postira on the island of Brać with a light continental breakfast. We all made conversation as we ate before boarding the bus at 8:30 to head to the ferry, which would carry us to Split and then over to Dubrovnik. As we waited for our ferry to depart, our cohort explored the shops and cafés in Supetar. Some of us bought clothes and souvenirs while others enjoyed coffee and Gelato by the water. I bought some Croatian stickers for my luggage, and a mini replica of one of Brać’s many stone-roofed huts, a continuation of my collection of replica knick-knacks that I had gathered on the trip.

It’s true- we do love Croatia!

The ferry ride to Split was quick and pleasant. After a day out on the beach, many of us weren’t too keen to be out in the sun, and instead opted to sit inside the Café of the ferry while crossing back to the mainland. After a quick boarding of the bus, we were officially on our way to Dubrovnik! The ride took roughly 4.5 hours, but it had no shortage of beautiful views and captivating history for us to learn as we made our journey down the Croatian coast. At 3, we arrived at our hotel, the Hotel Ivka, in Dubrovnik and took a short break before commencing our afternoon activities.

You may know of Dubrovnik because of the famous movies/ shows such as Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Robin Hood, Captain America, and so much more. We got the chance to tour this amazing city but right before we grabbed a quick bite at Dalmatino. We learned Dubrovnik is actually a very small city with only about 41,000 residents living there as well as the fun fact that you can walk from one side to the other in only a couple of minutes!

Dubrovnik gave the most European feel and it was the most gorgeous city we’ve seen! It had so many great restaurants down a stone road, amazing cliffs overlooking the sea, and great performances by live musicians. My favorite part was seeing the famous cat Johnny the boss! He is the most spoiled cat in the city and it was a cuteness overload as he waited for us to order drinks.

Overall this place is truly remarkable and we can’t wait to spend another day here!
