The Island of Brac

By IBIP Students Nolan and Julia

Hi, I’m Nolan an Agricultural and Consumer Economics major at Illinois. The second day on Brac started off with breakfast at the Hotel View which had a wide variety of food from eggs and sausage to fruits and sweeter items. We then got on the bus to go the the sardine canning factor. The tour was interesting and demonstrated the process of canning sardines while also showing where many members of the community worked.

After the sardine factory tour we went to see a stone carving school. In the school we saw many amazing carvings such as lions, fountains, and coat of arms. We moved on from the stone carving school to an outdoor market where I got a miniature stone sail boat and a dice carved out of stone. We spent an hour or so there before going to Bol beach where I took a nap and enjoyed a drink at the bar. When we got back I joined a group and went to get pizza at a restaurant and then worked on our daily journal entries before going to bed. Tomorrow we are going south to Dubrovnik for two days.

Dobradon! My name is Julia, I am going to be a junior at UIUC. I’m an ACE financial planning major. This trip has been a dream so far. I’m so grateful to be studying in such a beautiful country and learning about its culture in such unique ways.

Today is day 11 of our study abroad program, International Business Immersion Program. We are lucky enough to have Professor Renata Endres to guide us to authentic spots that give insight into true Croatian ways of life. Today we are visiting a fish market, Pucisca, and Bol Beach. We are staying at a beautiful hotel on the coast of Brac. We woke up early to start our day with a delicious buffet style breakfast. We took a quick drive up the mountain to the fish market, and we got to see the process of Adriatic Queen fish manufacturing. We then went to Pusica and visited a local stone carving school where we got to see students’ stone sculptures. The sculptures were impressive and well done. We shopped at local stone shops and I got adorable souvenir bracelets for my family and I. We then went to the world famous beach, Bol Beach. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We relaxed and swam all day with the group. We got back to the hotel around 6 and had the night to go to dinner and enjoy our last day in brac. I will miss brac. It was so beautiful and our hotel was luxurious. I am very excited for our final stop, Dubrovnik!

Just the very tip of the world famous Bol Beach, which we spent the afternoon swimming in
