Join us for an interactive Personal Brand Workshop presented by Cordelia Geiken and Laura Galvan and quick Canvas pilot update at the next IGET Meeting. This workshop will take you through some reflective exercises to will help you craft a personal Elevator Speech that you can use to introduce yourself smoothly and peak people’s interest, helping you to create a positive first impression. Whether you work in a technical field or not, it’s valuable to be able to quickly communicate what you do for a living and who you are both in professional and social settings.

About Our Presenters

Cordelia Geiken

I have been active in the University IT environment for over 30 years, focused upon customer-based usability and design, and providing quality products to our end users.

As Manager of the Quality Assurance and Assessment Team, I am responsible for the day to day management of a team of Software Testers, Accessibility Experts and Usability Specialists. We are responsible for the evaluation and testing of all products produced by Tech Services, as well as all software purchased by Tech Services. We also consult with units across Campus to help them evaluate their websites, interfaces and software purchases.

As the Manager of the Web Hosting team, I am responsible for the day to day management of a team of service administrators and liaisons who support a number of web hosting platforms offered to the campus community. I am also the Service Owner for the Illinois Wiki, Publish Illinois (a WordPress service) Web Illinois (a cPanel service), and our Usability Consulting Service. As Service Owner I am responsible for the oversight and planning for these services.

Areas of specialization and study: usability, web design, quality assurance and assessment, process improvement, project management and facilitation, and photography.

Laura Galvan

Laura Galvan is in the Financial Analysis team at Technology Services. She develops financial reports by turning data into useful information to drive conversations and decision making. Laura oversees the Financial Dashboard for Technology Services and is working with Tech Services’ Human Capital Management team to further develop our employee onboarding and engagement process. Laura values fostering relationships throughout the organization and collaborating with others. She has made it her mission to empower others by providing the knowledge of financial tools and information needed to drive success. Laura has recently put her skills to the test to learn Tableau and would love to hear from other Tableau users!
