Luftig, D.M. (Submitted to Organised Sound). An evaluation of the University of Illinois Experimental Music Studio’s tape collection.

Original study (2016) can be downloaded here

This study seeks to understand the organization and context of the historic University of Illinois Experimental Music Studio’s (EMS) tape collection and to assist in the long-term preservation of those materials. For this study, I spent seventeen weeks documenting the collection and interviewing stakeholders. I then assisted in moving the collection into long term storage at the University of Illinois Archives.

Luftig, D.M. (2016). Home away from home: An analysis of in-person point-of-need reference services at academic libraries. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Download report here

This study explores the different types of in-person point-of-need reference service strategies that take place within an academic library. This work was first created as a way to evaluate potential innovative reference services that could be provided at the Grainger Engineering Library during peak hours. This study was further refined for one of my Library and Information Science classes.

Luftig, D.M. (2016). The preservation considerations of historic electronic (musical) instruments. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Download report here

This research paper served as the final project for my Rare Books and Manuscript class although it represents years of interest regarding preserving legacy electronics in archives. Within this paper, I examine the role archives and artists must both play if they wish to have their unique electronic instruments preserved within archives and museums.

Mischo, W.H., Schlembach, M.C., Luftig, D.M., & Krogman, A.C. (To be submitted to College & Research Libraries). An analysis of data management strategies in University of Illinois National Science Foundation grant proposals. See link for previous study

This study examines how University of Illinois researchers share data, utilize and describe institutional and disciplinary repositories, and create data management plans for their grant proposals. Through this research, we have been able to glean the correlation between successful grant proposals and data management strategies. We are also better able to understand the role that libraries can play in assisting researchers utilize institutional and disciplinary repositories, share data, write better data management plans, and have successful grant proposals.

For this project, I served as the Data and Project Manager. In this role, I organized and stored large amounts of research data,  served as a liaison between faculty, trained researchers, and made workflow and policy suggestions. I also created the Literature Review and Methodology sections for this report.
