Introduction

I am currently a PhD candidate in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). My adviser is Professor Imad Al-Qadi. I obtained my MS degree in Dec. 2010 in the Department of CEE. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in June 2008 from Southeast University (SEU), Nanjing, China. I also studied for one year in an MS program in the area of highway and railway engineering in SEU.

My research interests focus on non-destructive testing (NDT) applications on various transportation infrastructures, including pavements, bridges and railroads. I have 3 years of experience on ground penetrating radar (GPR) research, in which I developed algorithms and software for processing GPR data, as well as explored new ideas, approaches and applications using GPR.

I currently work at the Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT), which is one of the largest research labs at the University of Illinois, where I have many excellent colleagues. My work is interdisciplinary, and I have taken courses in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in addition to my coursework in CEE, since my research involves electromagnetic (EM) wave, antenna, signal processing and machine learning.

On a personal note, I live in Urbana, IL with my wife and new daughter Emma, who was born in September 2012.
