Time: 11:30am – 1:00pm (As part of the workshop series, lunch will be provided.)

Workshop 1: Friday, September 26th
• Welcome
• Advocating for Underrepresented Groups: Why Is This Important?
• What Are the National Issues? Campus Issues?
• How Do You Determine the Issues in Your Courses? Department?
• Assignment: Identify ways to gather quantitative and qualitative data about underrepresented students in your course(s).
Workshop 2: Friday, October 17th
• What Successful Instructional Strategies and Programs Already Exist on Campus?
• What Does the Literature Tell Us?
• Assignment: Literature Search – Read articles that address your specific issues and concerns. What has been tried? What works?
Workshop 3: Friday, November 21st
• Instructional Strategies that Improve Retention and Academic Performance Among Underrepresented Groups
• Assignment: Start developing retention strategies you would like to implement in your courses, programs, or department. Develop a real game plan for implementation.
Workshop 4: Friday, December 19th
• Student Support Programs: Their Role in Retention and Improved Academic Performance
• Assignment: How do you plan to connect your department, course, or programs to these student support services on campus?
Workshop 5: Friday, February 13th
• Identifying and Securing Funding for Underrepresented Students and Initiatives
• Assignment: Identify at least one area of funding you would like to pursue. Develop a strategy to obtain it.
Workshop 6: Friday, March 13th
• Recruitment Strategies: How to Recruit Underrepresented Students into Your Programs
• Assignment: Identify one area where your department or program can improve recruitment efforts.
Workshop 7: Friday, April 10th
• Evaluation: Why Is This Important and How Do You Do It?
• Administrative Buy-In: How Do You Obtain It?
• Assignment: In what areas do you need administrative support? Develop a realistic strategy to obtain it.
Workshop 8: Friday, May 15th
• Plan-of-Action (Guided Working Session)/Presentations
• Resources and Mentoring Moving Forward

In order to make real change in your classroom and department, we ask that you commit to attending every workshop. It is designed as a step-by-step process that will lead to a unique concrete plan of action for each participant and long-term success.
