Interested in real-life projects, service-learning, and teamwork and leadership experience?
Register for Fall’14 ENG 315-Learning in Community (LINC) courses (3 credit hours) – open to all majors and all levels. LINC students engage in a variety of research, service and fieldwork activities and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects of significance to local and international community partners. Students have built bridges, produced marketing campaigns, improved water systems, developed youth programs, designed rain gardens, and lots more!
Students can gain knowledge and skills in conducting research, understanding social and environmental issues, analyzing community and organizational needs and assets, defining problems, generating and analyzing solutions, project scoping, planning, and execution, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and professional writing.

CUH – C-U at Home. Projects related to homelessness, support services and advocacy.
FSI – University of Illinois Fire Services Institute. Projects related to water pollutants, surface runoff water, and bioswale design.
HCS – Haiti Clean Stove. Projects related to international development and sustainable clean stoves.
HID – Haiti Infrastructure Development. Projects related to international development, water issues and reforestation.
HKC – His Kid’s Closet. Projects related to nonprofit development and poverty issues and children.
ISG – Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Program. Projects related to water contaminants, public health, environmental sustainability and education.
MWP – Mali Water Project. Projects related to international development, water issues, health and education.
OKO – Old King’s Orchard Community Center and KCPA Office of Engagement. Projects related to community development, youth programs, and arts engagement.
UES – City of Urbana Environmental Sustainability Division. Projects related to energy, water, and environmental sustainability.
WSB – Walking School Bus Program, Urbana School District, Leal Elementary School. Projects related to public health, youth education, and urban planning.

Consider this significant opportunity to acquire training and experience in project management and classroom facilitation while leading a real project of importance to a nonprofit community partner! ICDI RECRUITMENT- Be part of an emerging international intiative

We are student leaders committed to developing relationship and leadership skills between domestic and international students to promote a more inclusive UIUC campus.
The Intercultural Community Development Initiative is a new university initiative responding to the lack of social understanding and inclusion among International and domestic students here on the UIUC campus. We are looking for bright, highly-motivated students who are passionate about intercultural relationships and creating a more inclusive campus. 
Our goal is to enhance learning of social and relational skills, learning to adjust to the cultural norms, and developing leadership skills.
 
As part of ICDI, you will:
·       Create a legacy– you’ll be part of creating a brand new university program 
·       Use your talents– you’ll hone skills in event planning, workshop facilitating, marketing, budgeting, curriculum development, or teaching
·       Develop an impressive international network– you’ll be working and networking with university administrators and private companies both here and abroad.
 
Our current project is to create an in-country social workshop for international students pre-departure in Shanghai. That’s right- we’re going to work in China. We will continue to develop workshops on campus, and develop strong relationships with international students throughout their time at the university.

Apply to be a John Graf Intern at the Illinois Leadership® Center!  This is a paid year-long internship for the 2014-2015 school year – there are 4 positions available!
What is the John Graf Internship and what do interns do?
·  Coordinate and implement leadership development programs (I-programs)
·  A personal and professional development opportunity to develop communication, networking, program management, and leadership skills
·  Conduct Leadership workshops for students and staff around campus
·  Recruit Graf Interns for the next school year
Requirements for candidates applying for the internship are:
·  High academic achievement (a minimum GPA of 2.8/4.0)
·  Junior or Senior standing during the term of the internship
·  Available to work 15 hours per week

Women’s Leadership Conference: NEW Leadership Illinois 2014

NEW Leadership Illinois is an all-expenses paid, bi-partisan program that strives to educate and empower the next generation of female leaders. NEW Leadership Illinois challenges our brightest students to think critically and creatively about public policy and encourages them to make a commitment to public leadership early in their careers. The program includes leadership education, hands-on training in public policy, and networking opportunities with leaders from every level of government. 
This year’s program will be held June 2-6 in Chicago. Applications will be accepted until March 3, 2014. 
 
Students from all backgrounds and in all majors are encouraged to apply. Students should attend a college or university in Illinois or should be an Illinois resident, and must have junior, senior or recent graduate standing in June 2014.
Your campus community is home to countless female leaders who can contribute greatly to NEW Leadership Illinois. We need your help to make this year’s program a success. We hope you will share information about the program with students across all majors on campus and encourage them to apply.
