Biography

Gyu Sub Lee is a PhD student in the Aerospace Engineering department working under the guidance of Professors Gregory Elliott and Tonghun Lee. His scope of research in XPACC is the characterization of LIBS assisted supersonic combustion in a hypersonic scramjet environment. His main research interests are aerodynamics and gasdynamics in non-reacting and reacting high-speed flows. Experimental methods include high-speed schlieren, particle image velocimetry, chemiluminescence, planar laser-induced fluorescence, and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy.

Gyu Sub was raised in Chicago and the Chicagoland area. He completed both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in A.E. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His M.S. thesis, titled “Design and Development of a Wind Tunnel for the Investigation of Turbulent Compressible Mixing Layers,” documents the design process and characterization of a compressible shear layer facility. This wind tunnel will be used to provide high-quality experimental datasets to NASA for use in cfd validation.
