PhD Student in Landscape Architecture, with a minor in European Union Studies

Susan Ask is a 3rd year doctoral student in landscape architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests revolve around climate change, land use and nature conservation. At the University, she teaches an upper-level/graduate seminar in Sustainable Planning and works with the LEAM Lab and SEDAC on climate action plans, nature conservation and carbon sequestration. Previously, Susan worked as a university extension agent in Chicago, a conservation land manager in Maine, and a field ecologist in other infinitely fascinating places. She is the founder a sustainability-focused non-profit that combines science education with community engagement in Chicago and is an active member of the Chicago Wilderness Alliance, where she collaborates on climate action.

Susan studied ecosystem science and management at Yale University, earning an M.E.S. degree (from the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, now called the School of the Environment).  She has a B.A. in environmental studies from the University of Kansas.  Interdisciplinary studies and collaboration have always been the core of her work.
