Tonight I watched an episode of NBC Nightly News, which was both informative and interesting to me. It was released about a day ago, so this news is still very prevalent. After watching this particular episode, it’s fair to say that human interest, impact, conflict and prominence are the defining values on the program. Politics have become increasingly relevant in our every day lives, so it’s rather easy to see why a news outlet would cover such topics so aggressively. This being said, politics were highly talked about on NBC Nightly News. Our current political system is impactful, prominent, and consists of conflicting sides. Because of all of these values, human interest is piqued in the process. One story described the hundreds of undocumented immigrants arrested and deported across the nation this past week, while another covered the lawmakers facing backlash because of the looming Affordable Care Act repeal. These issues impact millions of people in the United States. As well as this, they have raised conflict among opposing groups, and have sparked hundreds of protests. Seeing as how these issues have such an affect on so many people, they have a high level of prominence and appeal to all humans.
