Upcoming Virtual Forum: Oct 30, 2021, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time
We cordially invite public librarians, information technology experts, and academic researchers interested in data privacy to participate in our upcoming forum/workshop dedicated to privacy protections in public libraries!
In this workshop — part of the ASIS&T 2021 conference — participants will learn about the latest findings from our project “National Forum for Privacy Protections in Public Libraries,” funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and hear from experts on their approaches to protecting patron privacy.
We are delighted to feature the following library privacy experts as part of our workshop:
- Alison Macrina, Director of the Library Freedom Project
- Bill Marden, Director of Privacy and Compliance for the New York Public Library
- Celeste Choate, Executive Director of the Urbana Free Library
- Marshall Breeding, Independent Consultant and Founder of Library Technology Guides
Workshop discussions will culminate with a discussion concerning how to create an open-access guide that identifies the challenges public libraries face in protecting patron privacy, lists best practices to address these problems, and establishes a network of collaborators to further address these challenges.
