Campus Resources

Inclusive Illinois
“Inclusive Illinois, one campus, many voices, is the University’s commitment to cultivating a community at Illinois where everyone is welcomed, celebrated, and respected.”

LGBT Resource Center
“The mission of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center is to foster an environment that is open, safe and inclusive for people of all sexualities and gender identities. The Center is a resource not only for the LGBT community but for the entire University community. It exists for anyone who is who is interested in learning about LGBT people, issues, and concerns.”

Department of Gender and Women’s Studies
“The mission of the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies (GWS) is to explore, analyze and challenge the ways in which gender shapes people’s lives.  Assumptions about gender difference saturate many aspects of social and political life and create different forms of inequality in the workforce, in education, in cultural production, in scientific research, as well as in resource allocation in both public and private institutions.  Because gender assumptions manifest differently in various communities, in our courses we systematically incorporate analysis of how race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and physical ability shape gender inequality.”

LGBT/Queer Studies Minor
“The LGBT/Queer Studies minor provides students the opportunity to explore how various political, social, and cultural definitions of sexual identities and their expression have been constructed and challenged in different places and points in time. Attention is given to queer politics, and interactions with nation, race, ethnicity, and gender. A minor in LGBT/Queer Studies provides complementary tools for many majors in the humanities, arts and sciences.”

Work-Life Balance and Family-Friendly Policies and Programs
“The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is committed to supporting faculty members and their families as they navigate their professional and personal lives.  We have a long history of assisting faculty with dual career issues, medical challenges, the birth or adoption of a new child, tenure clock hurdles, and general health and wellness.  In fact, our campus is a national leader in this area, as recognized in a 2010 study conducted at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.  The Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) cited the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as one of four exemplar doctoral institutions based on tenure-track faculty ratings of “work and home balance and supports.””

LGBT Ally Networking and Training
“The Ally Network is a group of self-identified faculty, staff, and students who work both to facilitate the development of all members of the campus community around issues of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The network also strives to improve the experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) students at the University of Illinois. Allies identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, cisgender, or heterosexual.”
