Robert L. Husband

Bob Husband is co-founder and senior partner of the ASLAN GROUP, and a retired faculty member in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He has served as a consultant to some 50 different corporations, organizations, and institutions throughout the country.  He is recognized nationally for his work in organizational leadership and management training.  He consults primarily in the areas of executive and administrative development, leadership training, strategic planning, and group facilitation.  He also has had extensive experience evaluating communication structures of large and small corporations, health care organizations, and government agencies.

Some of Dr. Husband’s clients include Amoco Oil Corporation, Baxter Corporation, Merrill-Lynch Co., Cook County Government, Columbus Cabrini Medical Center, Council for Independent Colleges, Kellogg Foundation, National Cancer Institute, National Arbor Day Foundation, State Farm Insurance Company, U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, U.S. Department of Education, and USDA Forest Service.  For over 20 years, he has been a featured speaker on such topics as listening, interpersonal communication, dialogue, learning teams, customer service, public speaking, group facilitation, and leadership development.

As a faculty member in the Department of Speech Communication, he taught courses in organizational communication, research methods, and leadership.  He also served as an instructional team member in the Executive Development Program within the College of Business Administration.  He received several teaching honors, including campus teaching excellence recognition and outstanding teacher of the year award. He holds degrees from Central Michigan University, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and the University of Illinois.  He is listed in Outstanding Young Men of America, and Outstanding Educators of America.

Dr. Husband has published or presented more than thirty-five papers on a variety of communication related topics.  His work has appeared in Small Group Communication, Vocational and Technical Education Monographs, Quarterly Journal of Speech, and International Journal of Listening.  His primary research is in the areas of managerial listening, factors contributing to successful organizational management, leadership in organizational settings, diagnosing and analyzing organizational communication problems, and leader communication styles.
