Where Do We Belong?
The main topic in these two articles was referring to how society views us and where we belong.I really like how in the article, “You Don’t Belong”, the author gave ustwo really good stories that we could picture. He made it humorous and made me want tokeep reading. It was interesting how when he was in the faculty meeting and they noticedhis stench, the first thing that came to his mind was his childhood memory of his friendsaying “You don’t belong”.It shows how important things in life can really stick with you.
In the other article, ” How Cities Use Design to Drive Homeless People Away”, it was talking about how bigger cities do not want homeless people sitting out or laying around in the public. In fact, right outside of an apartment building in Lyndon, they put metal spikeson the ground so Homeless people couldn’t lay down there. Now if that isn’t outragesenough, in other cities they would make park benches uncomfortable on purpose so thatcould prevent homeless people from falling asleep on them.I guess I understand theirpurpose for these things they were doing, but I do not agree with it.If it is a place open tothe public then they should be able to sit or lay where ever they want.
In the first article I talked about, its main point was to say that you need to be yourself. As long as you believe in yourself then you can accomplish anything you want.Ifyou believe you belong in a faculty meeting then you do.You can’t let anyone tell youdifferent. As for the second article I talked about, it was informing us on how cities aretaking things to an extreme with how they want to be portrayed. It was telling us that it iswrong for what they are doing and I agree.
