Over the weekend, I watched the ABC World News broadcast. ABC News has been broadcasting the news for some time now. The news that was broadcasted as I was watching was about current events that have been happening in the White House, the snow storm that has hit the northeast, a nuclear power plant exploding, and a video of a little girl sing in the hospital as she battles cancer while keeping her spirits up. I believe that the values ABC defines as “news” are current events they believe their viewers need to be informed about. Topics such as politics, major weather damages that have affected large areas of the country, and other events that have recently happened that will affect the country. I see a lot of the news values within in this program. Human interest is a big one because many people are interested in the Trump immigration ban and how it will span out in time and just his time in office, overall. Timeliness is another because the weather that has affected the northeast is important for travelers and for residents in the north-east area to prepare for the bad weather. Reporting on the girl singing in the hospital is to show some variety in what they are reporting rather than politics.
