How to Join

  • Graduate Programs
    •  Prof. Kim will review applications where candidates have indicated “Robotics” as their area of interest and Prof. Kim as their faculty preference. If the candidate aligns well with KIMLAB, we will reach out to her/him for an interview meeting.
    • We are primarily reviewing applications submitted via the UIUC ECE department.
  • Undergraduate Students
    • Prof. Kim teaches the “Robotics Project” course (ECE 398 JK) in the fall semester. This course is designed for independent study students from various departments who are eager to engage in hands-on robotics projects. Students will have the opportunity to work with KIMLAB’s robots and collaborate with the team to push the boundaries of innovation.
    • When the “Robotics Project” course is not offered, undergraduate students can still collaborate with KIMLAB through Independent Study or Senior Thesis courses. To be eligible, a minimum GPA of 3.7 is recommended, and students should plan to commit to 3 or 4 credit hours (1 credit hour equates to approximately 5 hours of work per week). If interested, please get in touch with Prof. Kim 2-3 weeks before the semester begins.
