Dr. Michelson’s current research is focused on the relationships among agricultural production, poverty, and the environment in the developing world. One strand of her work studies the evolving relationships between new large-scale market systems for agricultural products and millions of small farmers in emerging economies.
A second thread of her research uses price data, household surveys, and experimental auctions to study the dynamics and outcomes of small farmer fertilizer use in order to determine the most economically viable policies to bring about a sustainable increase in sub-Saharan Africa’s soil fertility.
