Street College: Studio Saturdays

Street College: Studio Saturdays is a free youth program for students in grades 5-12. The program is presented in partnership by the nonprofit organization, STEAM Genius and the Hip Hop Innovation Center at the University of Illinois.

Meetings are from 9am-12pm in Room 0324 in the basement of the Music Building (1114 W. Nevada St. in Urbana, IL). Instructors will be present to guide musicians through activities related to creating original music, beatmaking, coding, DJing, electronics, engineering, recording, songwriting, and other expressive and collaborative activities.

There is no cost, experience, or equipment necessary to participate. However, space is limited, so those interested in reserving a seat should register ahead of time.

Educators with an Illinois Educator Identification Number (IEIN) may earn Professional Development Hours (PDH) through the Council on Teacher Education by attending Street College: Studio Saturday sessions. After completing the registration form, educators will be contacted by the University of Illinois to complete Protection of Minors training and a criminal background check. These must be completed and confirmed before educators can begin attending sessions. PDH will be submitted for attendees at the end of the current session. For PDH inquiries, contact Dr. Adam Kruse.
