Mechanics and Materials

Biomechanics uses traditional engineering sciences to analyze biological systems. Mechanical deformation of biomaterials may be analyzed following different approaches and theories (i.e. linear elasticity for hard tissues/bone) or finite strain theory and computer simulations for soft tissues (e.g. skin, cartilage, muscle). Further improvements in realistic simulation should greatly enhance future biomechanics research.
