Luis Sebastián Pabón Rico

Luis Sebastián Pabón Rico (he/him/his) is a first-year Ph.D. student in Musicology at Harvard University. His current research projects revolve around religious music, hymnody, musical folklore, identity, and colonialism in the Caribbean, the United States, and Europe. He completed his Master’s degree in Musicology at The University of Texas at Austin, where he wrote his thesis on the first Protestant hymnals in Spanish used in Puerto Rico after 1898 and their relationship to the colonial policies implemented by the United States. He has presented his research at several conferences and symposiums, most recently at the annual conferences of the Society for American Music (March 2023) and the American Musicological Society (November 2022) Pabón Rico is also a cellist, a certified Suzuki teacher, and singer. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education (Cello) from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. He is a proud alumnus of both institutions.
