1. Fulfills a General Education (Humanities & the Arts) and Advanced Composition requirement.
2. Capstone field trip to Chicago to explore and observe great engineering systems in Chicago.
3. We’ll study Sports and Sports Analytics as a heroic system.
4. We’ll study Planes, Trains and Automobiles and how they’ve changed the world.
5. We’ll integrate movies into the course. Maybe not “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”, but “Particle Fever” (about CERN) and “Apollo 13”.
6. Students will develop a big perspective on engineering, past, present and future.
7. Students will be part of a small class community of engineers, humanists and artistic students and faculty from all across campus.
8. A Dream Team of teachers will help teach the course: Andreas Cangellaris, our Dean; David Lange, CEE, Steve Levinson, ECE and more.
9. We’ll give students big ideas and big visions about how engineering changes the world.
10. The topics covered are awesome in their “bigness”: Buildings and infrastructure; Space: The Next Frontier; The Future of Health and Bioengineering; and Telecom-
