About the Colloquium

Organized by the Colloquia Committee (Claire Barber and Eileen Lagman) of the English Graduate Student Association, this two-day colloquium is designed to foster dialogue among and feature the research of graduate students working in disability studies across the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is the first such event to be held at UIUC, and all events will take place on the third floor of the Levis Faculty Center, unless otherwise specified. The two keynote speakers, Robert McRuer and Carrie Sandahl, were invited because of their innovative research, interdisciplinary background, and commitment to both graduate education and disability studies. The colloquium also aims to raise awareness on campus about disability studies as a discipline—the circumstances of its emergence, its foundational concepts, and the future of research in this area.
