Trump bashes the New York Times for their latest ad

Tim Nudd from Adweek recently featured a news story on their website about Trump’s reaction to an ad from the New York Times.

As many of you may know, Trump and the New York Times have bad blood. Trump oftentimes bashes the New York Times on twitter for writing “fake news.” Therefore, it isn’t surprising that Trump responded to their ad.

In the news story, it features the New York Times ad. Their ad new campaign focuses on telling the truth. The ad is scheduled to air on television during this year’s Oscars. The tweet from Trump was also shared. “For first time the failing @nytimes will take an ad (a bad one) to help save its failing reputation.” tweeted Trump.

The New York Times have not released an official statement or response to Trump. The ad agency who created the ad (Droga5) have also declined to comment on Trump’s tweet.

ABC World News

I watched a newscast from ABC World News. The values that defined “news” on the program included all the news values (timeliness, oddity, proximity, conflict, human interest, impact, prominence). All the news included the value of timeliness because they are all current events happening (recent news). There was one event on the news program that seemed to fit the value of oddity. There were 400 whales that washed up and are stuck on the shore of New Zealand. Most of the events somewhat fit the value of proximity as well. Although none of the events were super close distance wise, there were a lot of events that happened in the U.S. and therefore affects most of the country. This brings me to the next value of prominence and impact. Many of the news stories from the program involved President Trump, therefore it has a huge impact and presence with all of the U.S. citizens. The news involving Trump were about a new security order as he met with the prime minister of Japan, a possible connection with Russia, controversy about education Secretary, Betsy DeVos, and deportation cases. Because Trump is president, everything involving him appeals to the value of human interest because politics affect everyone and all of humanity. There were also cases of conflict on the news program  such as a serious problem with a dam in California and a pipeline explosion. Therefore, all the “news” on the program embodied all the news values we discussed in class.
