We are a research group in the Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Our mission is to investigate candidate materials for use as coolants in advanced fission reactors and as breeding blankets in fusion reactors.

Do you want to get involved?

Multiple research opportunities are available for undergraduate and graduate students. Students with a background in nuclear engineering, chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering are particularly encouraged to apply. Previous experimental experience is desirable but not required.

If you are a prospective M.S. or Ph.D. student interested in nuclear engineering, chemistry and/or material science, reach out via email and apply to NPRE graduate programs. Applications for Fall 2024 are open until December 15th, 2023. Learn more about graduate applications to NPRE here. Limited opportunities are also available for students affiliated with other institutions and interested in conducting part of their M.S./ Ph.D. research at UIUC.
