The Terrifying Position of Obamacare Repeal

Link

As Donald Trump settles into office, his policies will steadily start to take over many of the previous policies set by President Barack Obama.

One of the policies that will be changed is Obamacare. The repeal of Obamacare will slowly but surely start to negatively impact citizens all over the country.

Journalist Thersa Brown, brought up the unfortunate situation of a patient without insurance that had cancer. Some procedures are extremely expensive and without Obamacare people can easily pass away from deadly diseases without a helping hand from medical professionals.

According to her report ,”Even with the provisions in the proposed American Health Care Act, the “replace” part of the Republican approach, an estimated 10 million people would fall off the rolls.”

This is a great amount of people that will be negatively impacted. The people can only hope, that the government will be able to come up with a compromise that helps fix this terrifying problem.

Addiction to Social Media has Users in Terror

As the advancement of technology continues to rise, so does the amount of people that are using social media.

A survey by the American Psychological Association found around 90% of people in the age range of 18-29 years old were using social media, up from just 12% in 2005. The most used social media outlets were ranked in this order: Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and then Twitter.

This age range demographic is not only rising in users but it also rising in the amount of users that are concerned about how much time they are spending on social media.

According to the report, “Almost half (48%) worry about the negative effects of social media on their physical and mental health.”

These users are labeled “constant checkers” and reported higher stress levels than their less-connected peers. Putting the phone down doesn’t seem to be getting any easier and users are becoming terrified of the overall affect of social media.

NBC Nightly News Post

I watched the February 10th broadcast of NBC Nightly News. I decided to watch NBC over the other news stations because of the way NBC presents their information about events. This news segment had stories that had the values that we went over in class. The first story was about Russia giving the United States a refugee that President Trump wants. This story contained the element of conflict. The United States does not know if Russia truly wants to make amends or if they are up to something else. There is also conflict towards whether or not the refugee deserves the death penalty in the United States. A second story had the element of impact. Families all across the United States are being torn apart because illegal immigrants are being deported This not only affects the emotional state of families but it can also have a negative impact psychologically on children growing up. A third story had the element of human interest. There have been many extreme weather events in the past month in different parts of the United States. People were intrigued when seeing the damage that different storms created. Overall, conflict and tragedy are the main themes of the NBC Nightly News.
